Parent Council

Setting up of Parent Councils

As from August 2007, School Boards were replaced by Parent Councils. The Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006 makes provision for all parents to be members of the Parent Forum at their child's school. Parents views will be represented to the school, education department and others through a representative Parent Council at the school.     

The intention behind the new legislation is to support parental involvement in a much wider sense than before. It aims to help all parents to be:

• Involved with their child's education and learning

• Welcomed as active participants in the life of the school

• Encouraged to express their views on school education generally and work in partnership with the school

During Spring 2007 a Working Party made up of parents and school staff met to draw up a constitution for the Cross Arthurlie Parent Council. Parent Council Constitution - amended June 2009

At the 2009 Annual General Meeting, all the Parent Council office bearers stood down as in line with the rules of the constitution.

The school would like to say a special thank you to Mrs Lisa Mackenzie, the outgoing Chairperson for her contribution to both the School Board and then the Parent Council over the past 5 ½ years, Mr Duncan McGregor, the outgoing Vice Chair, who also served on both the School Board and Parent Council and Mrs Jacqui Faulds, the outgoing Treasurer. Mrs Alison Hunter also stood down as the Fundraising Convener. Again we would like to thank Mrs Faulds and Mrs Hunter for their contribution to the Parent Council and their past involvement over a number of years with the Parent Teacher Association.

At the AGM the following were elected to serve as office bearers for the 2009/2010 school year:

Mrs Evelyn Oliphant, Chairperson,

Mrs Jean Hepburn, Vice Chair,

Mrs Shona Fernan, Treasurer,

Mrs Alison Gibson and Mrs Anne McNair will act as Joint Fundraising Conveners.

Parent Council meetings are open to all parents. The meetings for the school year 2009/2010 will be held in the Conference Room/Library at Barrhead High School (with the exception of the AGM, which will be held at Cross Arthurlie Primary School).  Dates and times for meetings in the current school year are listed below.
